Tughluq Shah
Ghiasuddin Tughluq II
Sultan of Delhi during
Tughluq Dynasty
Reign – A.D. 1388 to
1389
Father – Fateh Khan
In September A.D.
1388 after the death of Firoz Shah Tughluq, his grandson Tughluq Shah ascended
the throne and assumed the title of Tughluq Shah Ghiasuddin Tughluq II.
His father name
was Fateh Khan. His accession was opposed by his uncle Shahzada Muhammad. He
declared himself to be the real ruler of Delhi and assumed the title of
Nasiruddin Muhammad but he was defeated by Tughluq Shah and fled away towards
Kangra.
Tughluq Shah
himself was young, inexperienced and given to sensual pleasures. He started
making excessive use of wine and women and forfeited the respect and affection
of the nobles. He increased the number of his opponents by his own bad conduct.
Tughluq Shah began to imprison his opponents on the basis of suspicion only.
Being afraid of it, his cousin Abu Bakr, son of Zafar Khan, conspired against
him in order to take revenge and succeeded in assassinating him on 19th
February A.D. 1389.
