Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri
The most
significant source of information about the reign of Jahangir is his
autobiography known as Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri. Jahangir having followed in the
footsteps of his ancestor Babar resorted to the strenuous work of writing his
autobiography and penned the history of the early seventeen years of his reign
with his own hand but later on due to this illness he deputed Mutamid Khan for
the completion of this work.
It
contains details accounts of battles, conquests and rebellions, appointments
and dismissals of civil and military persons. It being an autobiography throws ample light on
the character and personality of Emperor
Jahangir and also highlights his weakness but he has not mentioned details of
his own revolt against his father,
Khusrau’s revolt and his death and the circumstances which led to his marriage
with Nurjahan. The author has also depicted the economic and natural condition
of India in a very lively way.
