Second Battle of Panipat
|
The second battleof Panipat has a great significance in the history of India. It made the
Mughals victorious against the Afghans and Hindus for the second time. With the
defeat of the Afghans and death of Hemu, the idea of establishing a Hindu or
Pathan rule in India came to an end. The vast army of Hindus and Pathans which
was organized by Hemu was shattered after his defeat. The Mughals received a
huge booty in the shape of elephants and wealth. It injected a news vigour and
power among them and all the remaining three Afghan claimants of the throne of
Delhi were crushed. This battle also ended the Mughal-Afghan rivalry as after
it there remained no powerful Afghan to challenge the supremacy of the Mughals
in India. Immediately after occupying the throne of Delhi and Agra, Akbar
established his control over the entire Northern India. Thus the second battle
of Panipat proved beneficial for the Mughals but it crushed the dreams of the
Afghans and Hindus forever.
