Battle of Ghaghra
Year – 1529 A.D.
Between - Babur and Mahmood Lodi
Battle of Ghaghra
|
Undoubtedly, Babur had defeated the
Afghans but their power was not crushed altogether. Some of the Afghan rebels
were still scot-free and they could be a problem for him at any time. Mahmood
Lodi, the brother of Ibrahim Lodi and the claimant of the throne of Delhi, was
still surviving. He had conquered Bihar and gathered a lot of power due to the
support of rebel Afghans like Nusrat Shah of Bengal and Sheikh Bayazid. Babur
at once marched against Mahmood Lodi in A.D. 1529 and crushed the power of the
Afghans after a brief encounter. The Afghan rebels were so much perturbed by
this defeat that they left Mahmood Lodi and joined Babur. Mahmood Lodi took
refuge in Bengal but Babur chased the fugitive arch rebel and defeated the
joint army of Mahmood and Musrat Shah in the battle of Ghaghra. He returned to
Delhi being satisfied with the result of this battle.
