Battle of Chanderi
Year - 1528 A.D.Between - Babur and Medini Rai
Battle of Chanderi
|
After the battle of Khanua, Babur
summoned his officers to subjugate the rest of the country and sent them in
various directions along with small contingents and he devoted himself to the
task of conquering Chanderi. Medni Rai of Chanderi was a close associate of
Rana Sanga. He had escaped from the battle of Khanua and taken refuge in
Cahnderi (near Bhopal). He had a contingent of about 5000 Rajputs with him who
could create problem for Babur at any time, so Babur did not want to spare him.
Babur at once besieged the fort in A.D. 1528. A fierce battle was fought in
which ultimately Babur stood victorious. Medni Rai wa killed in the battle and
a great number of Rajputs were slain and a tower of their heads was created
here also. A large quantity of booty was collected from the Rajputs. Ahmad
Yadgar writes, “So much plunder was taken
from the heathen army that the king’s troops obtained sufficient to support
them for years.”
