Sultan of Delhi in
Sayyid Dynasty
Reign – A.D. 1421 to
1434

Mubarak Shah ascended
the throne of Delhi after the death of his father Khizr Khan. He was a worthy son
of a worthy father. He was brought up with great care and was imparted good
education. As he was born in a royal family, military training was also given
to him in due course of time. Very soon Mubarak grew to be a successful
commander. He soon developed a liking for politics and diplomacy of his father
encouraged and wished. Seeing all the good qualities in his son Khizr Khan nominated
Mubarak as his successor. Hence he was enthroned after the death of his father.
Mubarak Shah
ruled from A.D. 1421 to 1434. He ruled peacefully for about thirteen years. His
succession to the throne was not opposed by anybody. But like the reign of is
father he had to face some revolts which he suppressed quite sternly and thus
he restored peace in the Sultanate. Contemporary scholars have lavished praises
on him as a just, generous and efficient ruler.
Like his father,
Mubarak Shah also ruled for some time as a representative of Timur, the ruler
of Samarkand. But as soon as Timur breathed his last, he broke away all
connections with the ruler of Samarkand and declared his independence and
assumed the title of Sultan.
As independent
ruler he cast his attention towards Khokhars who were creating a lot of trouble
in the north of western territory. He desired to crush the power of the
Khokhars altogether but he did not succeed in his motive. The Khokhars went on
creating troubles on the frontiers of north-west region. They did not care for
Mubarak shah or his commanders.
Doab had ever
been a rebellious region. Khizr Khan had to crush the rebels with a strong
hand. His son Mubarak Shah also had to face rebellions in this region. Mubarak
Shah crushed them mercilessly. He launched an expedition against Rohilkhand and
Mewat. He himself went to suppress the rebels along with a powerful army.
Jaasrath, the
chief of Khokhars, thought of destroying the Sayyid dynasty and endeavored to
establish his own control over Delhi. He perturbed Sultan Mubarak Shah to a
great Extent. A conspiracy was hatched by the Muslims and Hindu Chiefs against
the life of the Sultan and on February 19, A.D. 1434 he fell victim to it.
Sarvar-ul-Mulk, the Wazir, was the leader of the rebels.

Shah was bestowed with qualities of head and heart. Tarikh-i-Mubarakshahi
was written in his reign and a new town called Mubarakbad was founded on the bank
of the Yamuna during his reign.
